RFID technology
RFID technologies are rapidly spreading around the world and cover more and more important areas: personal identification and credit cards, product protection, access cards, animal identification, car immobilization, etc.
Unfortunately, the ingenuity of thieves is also not far behind, so you have probably heard more than once of cases where credit cards or personal data were stolen and used for nefarious purposes. The good news is that there are simple and inexpensive ways to prevent this. But let's start from the beginning.
What is RFID?
RFID (radio frequency identification) is an automatic object identification method based on information storage and remote transmission using radio waves.
Briefly describing the system, it consists of: RFID tags, RFID reader and software.
RFID tags can be of various shapes and sizes: cards, pendants, adhesive labels, hard markers, microchips. This is one of the reasons why RFID technologies are convenient to use in logistics warehouses, libraries, controlling the access of persons to certain premises. In addition, RFID proponents highlight other advantages of the technology:
- The information is read in a contactless way, it does not even require direct visibility of the person;
- Information is read quickly and accurately even in an aggressive environment: through paint, wood, plastic, steam, dirt, etc.;
- RFID tags contain a large amount of information, which can be changed if necessary;
- The RFID reader can read several tags at the same time, so it is very convenient for controlling a large number of people in one place.
One of the most common threats to RFID technology is digital data theft . Since most ID cards and credit cards contain RFID chips, thieves only need an RFID reader and software to steal a victim's data and use it illegally.
How to protect yourself from data theft?
The simplest way is to always be vigilant and not disclose your personal or bank card details to third parties.
Another additional solution is a wallet with protection against RFID signals . You can safely store ID and credit cards in such a wallet. And if there are additional sections, you will have the opportunity to bring order to a previously chaotic environment. If you are traveling with a passport or want to comfortably fit your plane tickets - perhaps the most convenient solution would be a larger travel wallet , suitable not only for money and cards, but also for documents?
